Scott Rindfleish Foundation partners with Softball ACT to Strike Out Bowel Cancer at Men’s ACT Skins

The Scott Rindfleish Foundation is proud to announce a new partnership with Softball ACT, launched at this year’s Men’s ACT Skins tournament, one of Australia’s premier men’s softball events.

The collaboration brings together two organisations deeply connected to the softball community, united by a shared purpose: to Strike Out Bowel Cancer and drive life-saving awareness across the sport Scott loved.

A Powerful Platform for a Critical Message

The ACT Skins tournament provides the perfect stage to amplify awareness of bowel cancer, the deadliest cancer for Australians aged 25–54. With thousands of players, officials, families, and supporters passing through the grounds, the event offered a meaningful opportunity to educate the community about early symptoms and the importance of acting quickly.

From signage and Strike Out Bowel Cancer apparel to conversations around the diamonds, the partnership will ensure Scott’s message reaches people of all ages and backgrounds.

Scott Rindfleish was at the prime of his softball career when he was diagnosed with bowel cancer. His journey reminds us that this disease does not discriminate; even the strongest, fittest athletes can be affected.

This partnership honours Scott’s legacy by ensuring his story continues to inspire awareness, action, and early detection. Through visibility at major sporting events like the ACT Skins, the Foundation continues Scott’s mission to protect more Australians from the impact of bowel cancer.

Sunday 16 November 2025 | Macarthur Grange Golf Course

The Scott Rindfleish Foundation Golf Day returned in 2025 with outstanding community spirit, heartfelt connection, and a shared commitment to Strike Out Bowel Cancer. Held at the Macarthur Grange Golf Course, the event brought players, supporters, sponsors, and volunteers together to honour Scott’s legacy and raise funds for bowel cancer awareness, patient support, and vital research.

A Day of Purpose, Community & Friendly Competition

From the 7:00am arrival to the final putt of the day, the atmosphere was filled with energy, laughter, and plenty of competitive fun. Teams enjoyed 18 holes of golf, breakfast on arrival, a BBQ lunch, competitions, raffles, and a lively presentation ceremony.

The Golf Day is more than a sporting event, it is a gathering of people united by a cause. Every registration, donation, and act of support directly contributes to the Foundation’s work in promoting early detection and saving lives through bowel cancer awareness programs.

On November 10, 2024, we invite you to join Softball NSW and the Scott Rindfleish Foundation at the NSW State League competition for the first-ever “Strike Out Bowel Cancer Day.” This special day is dedicated to raising awareness about bowel cancer, one of Australia’s most common yet preventable cancers.

Bowel cancer affects thousands of Australians every year, and early detection is key to saving lives. According to the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, approximately 15,000 Australians are diagnosed with bowel cancer each year, with an estimated 5,000 deaths annually. Despite these numbers, bowel cancer is one of the most treatable cancers when detected early, giving it a 90% survival rate if diagnosed early enough.

What to Expect on Strike Out Bowel Cancer Day

A Sea of Blue

We encourage everyone attending the NSW State League competition to wear blue to show support for the fight against bowel cancer. Let’s make the day a visual reminder of the importance of early detection.

Community Champions

Players, coaches, and volunteers will be recognised as “Community Champions” throughout the day for their efforts in supporting bowel cancer awareness. Look for them around the event wearing blue foundation shirts and sharing educational messages on the importance of early detection.

Educational Resources

The Scott Rindfleish Foundation will have a booth at the event, where attendees can learn about bowel cancer prevention and early detection. Free information packets and resources will be available to help everyone understand the steps they can take to protect themselves and loved ones.

Why This Day Matters

Bowel cancer is the second deadliest cancer in Australia, yet regular screenings and early detection can drastically reduce mortality. Most bowel cancers develop from small growths in the lining of the bowel called polyps. While not all polyps become cancerous, their removal can help prevent cancer from developing. Unfortunately, many Australians put off screening due to a lack of symptoms or awareness of the importance of early detection.

By bringing attention to this issue, Softball NSW and the Scott Rindfleish Foundation hope to encourage more Australians to participate in regular screenings, understand the signs of bowel cancer, and support loved ones in getting screened.
